A quaint seaside town with a huge sprawling beach, Dahanu is situated in Thane district. This once barren land thrived under Irani settlers and boasts of some of the country's best 'chickoo' orchards. Quite near is 'Udwada' the sacred town of Paris.

Famous for its chikoo fruit, Dahanu is surrounded by greenery on three sides and the Arabian Sea on the West. Other fruits grown in the area are coconuts, mangoes, lychees, and a variety of vegetables. Neighboring Chinchani, about 20 kms from Dahanu towards the south, also has a beautiful beach and is renowned for its die makers.

Dahanu itself is the largest manufacturer of balloons in the world. Recently with the Dahanu Thermal Power Station coming up in Dahanu, there has been a concern among the farmers and business community about the environment in Dahanu Region.
